Community Guidelines
Dear Strangers is a curated social club for young local and expat professionals in their 20s and 30s looking to elevate their social circle in Brussels. By joining a Dear Strangers event or becoming a Club Member, you agree to respect the following guidelines designed to ensure our community remains welcoming, respectful, and social for everyone during and outside events.
Mindset
1.1 Come with the intention of building an additional social circle. 1.2 Be open-minded, curious and kind. 1.3 Give a chance to every participant. You never know who’s gonna be your next friend !1.4 Always remain mindful of other people's personal space, vibe, and comfort levels. If someone seems distant or uninterested, respect it immediately and give them space.1.5 Do not try to impress, dominate conversations, sell something, network aggressively, or pursue someone romantically. 1.6 Do not come with the intention of dating. Dear strangers is not a dating club or a dating app. While romantic connections can happen naturally over time, they should never be the objective of your attendance.1.7 Avoid any behaviour that makes the group feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or disrespected. This includes aggressive behaviour, offensive jokes, unwanted physical contact, excessive flirting, or intimidation.1.8 Alcohol is never an excuse for inappropriate behaviour. Know your limits. If a participant becomes too drunk, aggressive, or intrusive, our team will ask them to leave immediately.
Inclusivity & Diversity
2.1 Dear Strangers welcomes people from all countries, cultures, and backgrounds.2.2 We tolerate zero discrimination, mockery, or exclusion based on nationality, gender, origin, sexual orientation, appearance, or religion. Be kind, or leave.
Digital Community & DM Protocol
3.1 You are welcome to contact people you have actually met and talked to during our events.3.2 It is strictly forbidden to browse the WhatsApp member list to privately message members you have never interacted with in person.3.3 Using the community directory for unsolicited private flirting or commercial spamming will result in an immediate and permanent ban.3.4 When organizing informal gatherings (Micro-events) on our channels, the invitation must always remain open to the entire group. Creating exclusive sub-groups or using the channel for targeted dating is strictly prohibited.
Responsibility
4.1 You are strictly responsible for settling your own food and drink bill directly with the venue at the end of the evening.4.2 While we appreciate your willingness to help, do not interfere with the organization during events. Let the Host manage the activities, as disruptions affect the entire Dear Strangers experience.4.3 Last-minute cancellations and no-shows disrupt the table balance we carefully create. Cancellations made less than 48h before the event are non-refundable.4.4 Punctuality is key. Arriving late disrupts the group dynamic and the event flow. If you are running late, notify your Host. Excessive lateness may result in your spot being forfeited without a refund.4.5 Your spot is strictly personal. Do not bring "+" ones, friends, or uninvited guests to the event, as all participants must go through our curation process.4.6 Treat our Hosts and team members with absolute respect. They are here to protect the vibe and ensure everyone has a good time. Any disrespect, rudeness, or failure to follow a Host’s instructions will lead to a permanent ban.
Privacy
5.1 We take photos/videos for social media. Let us know at the start if you prefer not to appear.5.2 Respect the privacy of our members. What is shared around the table stays around the table. Do not share stories, personal information, or photos of other participants online without their strict consent.
Safety & Enforcement
6.1 If uncomfortable, tell your Host immediately or message us privately after the event. We take security seriously.6.2 Keep complaints private. If you have constructive feedback or an issue with an event, venue, or member, address it directly and privately with the management team. Airing grievances or creating drama in community public channels is strictly prohibited.6.3 Dear Strangers reserves the right to issue warnings, remove you from an event, or permanently ban you without refund in case of harassment, unwanted physical contact, or behavior that puts others at risk.
